The Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly, India's largest, will feature a special Speaker’s chair carved in Karnataka for the upcoming Budget session on February 9. The chair, made from rosewood by 10 skilled artisans under the Karnataka State Forest Industries Corporation, stands seven feet tall and bears the U.P. State emblem. It cost ₹29.79 lakh, including GST. The chair was sent from Bengaluru to Lucknow on Friday. U.P. Assembly Speaker Satish Mahana, inspired by Karnataka’s Assembly chair during the All-India Speakers’ Conference in Bengaluru, requested a similar chair for U.P. After discussions and measurements by a team headed by DCF Sridhar, the artisans spent nearly two months perfecting the piece. Unlike Karnataka’s version, the U.P. chair does not have a crown on top. The chair is expected to reach Lucknow by February 5, just ahead of the Budget session.
