On January 28 around 10 p.m., Sandalwood actor Mayur Patel caused a multiple-vehicle accident on HAL Airport Road in Bengaluru. Patel allegedly rammed his car into a vehicle stopped at a traffic signal near Command Hospital. The impact caused four vehicles to collide. Police said Patel was speeding and under the influence of alcohol. Passers-by alerted the police, who then took Patel to the station and gave him a breath test. The test result was positive for alcohol. Patel’s car was also found without valid insurance. A complaint was filed by Srinivas, one of the car owners damaged in the crash. Srinivas told police he recently bought the car by pawning his wife’s jewels and worked as a cab driver. He has not paid the first EMI and is worried about losing work days due to repairs. The police registered an FIR against Patel under rash and negligent driving (Section 281 of BNS) and drunken driving (Section 185 of Motor Vehicles Act) at Halasuru Traffic Police Station. They have seized Patel’s vehicle pending further legal action.
