Swiggy Lets Users Order Food, Groceries via AI Chatbots Like ChatGPT Using New Protocol
January 29, 2026
Swiggy has launched a smart way to order food and groceries using AI chatbots like ChatGPT, Claude, and Google’s Gemini. Users can now simply type their orders into these bots to get what they want. This works thanks to the open-source Model Context Protocol (MCP) that helps AI chatbots connect with Swiggy’s platforms such as Swiggy Food, Dineout, and Instamart. Through this, users can build carts, apply coupons, track orders, get product recommendations, search restaurants, compare options, make reservations, and track deliveries - all by chatting. Swiggy’s Instamart is the first quick-commerce platform worldwide to use MCP. To order, users connect their AI chatbot with Swiggy via a custom connector app and provide the URL for integration. Madhusudhan Rao, Swiggy’s CTO, said, “Conversational commerce lets users simply express what they want, when they want it, whether it is to book a table at their favourite restaurant or order drinks and snacks for a match-viewing party.” He added, “By bringing MCP to quick commerce, food delivery, and dining out, we’re removing friction from daily decisions and enabling a level of ease, personalisation, and joy that makes on-demand convenience feel effortless.”
