A Russian soldier wore a white thermal-blocking cloak that looked like a penguin. He hoped it would hide him from Ukrainian drones. But the cloak did not work. A Ukrainian drone found him and exploded nearby, killing him. The cloak is said to block thermal sensors, but it failed in this case. Footage shows the soldier walking alone in snow before being targeted.
Russian forces have used these cloaks to try escaping detection by Ukrainian drones. The bizarre costume earned the soldier the nickname "penguin." This incident happened as Russian commanders are reportedly punishing their soldiers harshly. Videos show soldiers taped to trees in freezing cold for desertion or disobeying orders. One soldier, only in underwear, was forced to eat snow by an officer. One punished soldier begged: "It won’t happen again. I’m sorry, please." The officer replied, "You need to work, not **** off."
At the same time, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said a US security guarantee plan for Ukraine is "100 per cent" ready to sign. He waits for the time and place. After signing, it will go to the US Congress and Ukrainian Parliament.
Recently, talks between Russian and Ukrainian officials in Abu Dhabi, with the US mediating, showed no immediate breakthrough. The Kremlin called the talks "constructive," but said much work remains.
Soon after, Russia launched a heavy overnight attack. It hit heating and power grids, leaving millions without heat or electricity during freezing weather. Zelenskyy said the attack used more than 370 drones and 21 missiles, killing at least one person.
