Telangana Police Fortify Security Ahead of Municipal Elections with Armed Marches and Check Posts
January 28, 2026
Telangana police are fully prepared for the upcoming municipal elections, says Director General of Police B. Sivadhar Reddy. With the election schedule announced, the election code of conduct is now in effect, triggering strong security actions across municipal corporations and municipalities in the state.
Large police deployments, check posts, and flying squads are active to stop illegal cash, liquor, drugs, and other inducements that could influence voters. Officials check anyone carrying more than ₹50,000 to verify the money’s source. Licensed weapons must be deposited immediately, and special searches aim to find and seize illegal arms.
The DGP recalled the gram panchayat elections where 1,800 weapons were surrendered. To boost voter confidence, armed flag marches will take place in over 1,000 sensitive and vulnerable areas.
Besides local police, Telangana State Special Police and other departments are involved. About 2,000 staff from the Excise and Forest departments also assist in election duties.
Mr. Reddy appeals to voters: "Exercise your franchise freely and without yielding to inducements." He assured that police will stay alert to maintain peace and ensure orderly elections.
