January 27, 2026
On Tuesday, a local court in Sidlaghatta rejected the bail plea of Congress leader B.V. Rajeev Gowda. He was remanded in judicial custody in a case involving threats made to Sidlaghatta municipal Commissioner Amrutha Gowda. The court called the offence "grave in nature." After hearing arguments, the judge dismissed the bail request and ordered judicial remand. The police wanted five days of custody for further questioning but the court refused. Rajeev Gowda was arrested at the Kerala border on Monday. He had been hiding since January 14. Meanwhile, the court granted bail to Michael Joseph, the second accused. Joseph was arrested for harbouring Rajeev Gowda at a farmhouse in Mangaluru. After hearing both sides, the judge allowed his bail plea.
