Meta Testing Premium AI Subscriptions for Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp
January 27, 2026
Tech giant Meta is preparing to test premium subscription services for Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp in the coming months. The new plans will offer users access to advanced features, including enhanced artificial intelligence (AI) tools. Despite the premium options, access to the platforms’ basic services will stay free to all users.
Meta also aims to trial subscriptions for its new Vibes app, which generates videos using AI. The company says Vibes "can bring your ideas to life with new AI visual creation tools." This app was announced in September alongside the latest Meta AI updates.
Moreover, Meta plans to incorporate AI technology from Manus, a Chinese-founded AI firm it purchased for $2 billion in December. According to TechCrunch, Manus will play a key role in the subscription features. Meta will keep offering Manus’s standalone AI services to businesses.
Meta said the Manus deal will enhance its AI by providing "agents" that perform complex tasks with minimal user input, such as organizing trips or creating presentations. In a blog post, Meta stated, "Manus's exceptional talent will join Meta's team to deliver general-purpose agents across our consumer and business products, including Meta AI."
Now based in Singapore, Manus claims to offer a unique AI agent that can independently plan, execute, and complete tasks, unlike many chatbots that require continuous commands from users.
