January 26, 2026
The Republic Day flower show at Lalbagh Botanical Garden, dedicated to famous Kannada writer K.P. Poornachandra Tejaswi, drew more than 8 lakh visitors from January 14 to 26, the State Horticulture Department said. The event collected nearly ₹2.75 crore in revenue. This marks a huge jump from last year's show, which saw 4.75 lakh visitors and ₹2.3 crore earnings. On the final day, family members of Kuvempu and Tejaswi visited the show.
A special bookstore was set up on-site, featuring 54 titles by Tejaswi. The stall sold over 13,000 books, with 3,800 copies of "Carvalho" alone. Revenue included over ₹2.46 crore from entry tickets and ₹28.5 lakh from stalls and other sources.
The show used about 35 lakh flowers sourced from across the State and beyond. Of these, 9 lakh flower wastes will be turned into compost and organic manure. This eco-friendly effort will help nourish Lalbagh’s gardens and reduce waste, officials said.
