On January 26, 2026, the 77th Republic Day saw a grand march led by CPI(M) and AIKS leaders including Dr. Ashok Dhawala, J.P. Gavit, and Dr. Ajit Nawale. Tens of thousands of people took part in the disciplined march from Nashik to Mumbai that began on January 25. Amid the march, the national flag was tied high on the lead truck and the crowd saluted it with respect. Participants included men, women, old, and young from all parts of Nashik district. After the march, the National Anthem played as everyone stood at attention, paying homage to freedom fighters and celebrating Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar's role in framing the Constitution. The event highlighted struggles of Adivasi and peasant communities and stressed the need to protect India's constitutional values of sovereignty, democracy, secularism, and socialism. The Maharashtra government tried to reach out to leaders on January 25, but they refused to meet. Dr. Ashok Dhawale said, "The march would continue till Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis hold a meeting with them and conceded the demands." The march then continued its journey towards Mumbai amid strong public support.
