Varanasi Police Seize ₹30.52 Crore Assets in Codeine Syrup Smuggling Case

Varanasi police on Sunday seized assets valued at ₹30.52 crore connected to accused Bhola Prasad Jaiswal and his family. This action is part of the probe on illegal supply of codeine-laced cough syrup. The seizure falls under Section 68(F) of the NDPS Act, which deals with freezing illegally acquired property. Bhola Prasad Jaiswal is the father of Shubham Jaiswal, the alleged kingpin in the case.
Uttar Pradesh Police are investigating a network smuggling controlled codeine cough syrups throughout the state. DCP Varuna Zone Pramod Kumar said, "Properties worth approximately ₹30.52 crore, acquired through criminal activities by the accused and his family, have been seized." A notice of attachment has also been posted at their house in Kayastha Tola, Prahlad Ghat area.
Additionally, around ₹3 crore held in three Indian Bank accounts have been frozen. The police have served a Warrant-B against the accused based on collected evidence. This operation is a major step in curbing illegal drug smuggling in the region.
