Vellore, Tiruvannamalai, Ranipet, and Tirupattur districts are on high alert for the 77th Republic Day on January 26, 2026. More than 3,000 police personnel have been deployed across these areas. The public is allowed to join celebrations at parade grounds and government school playgrounds. “We have conducted intensive track patrolling over the vital installation of the Palar Bridge on the Katpadi route,” said Nikhil Kumar Gupta, Inspector, RPF, Jolarpettai. He added that surveillance at railway level crossings has also been stepped up. Officials announced the Chief Minister’s Police Medals will be awarded and freedom fighters honoured during the event. Anti-sabotage teams are guarding important public places like Katpadi railway station, bus terminus, places of worship, and historical sites to prevent incidents. Vellore has six main checkpoints: Christinapet, Serkadu, Paththalapalli, Paradarami, Sainagunta, and Ponnai (Madhanakuppam). Major railway stations including Arakkonam, Jolarpet, Tiruvalam, Ranipet, Ambur, and Walajah are under tight watch by the Railway Protection Force and Government Railway Police.
