Wanted Man Turns Police Facebook Post Into A Week-Long Chat Before Surrender
January 26, 2026
In November 2018, Anthony Akers, a 38-year-old man in Washington, did something unusual. Instead of hiding after being wanted by police, he replied to a wanted Facebook post by the Richland Police Department. The post said Akers was wanted for failing to follow probation rules after a drug charge. Akers wrote, “Calm down, im going to turn myself in.” The police replied with office hours and offered help, even saying they could pick him up if needed.
Akers kept promising to come in but delayed several times. He apologized for standing the police up and said he would come by lunchtime the next day. However, he missed that too. The police responded with a message that sounded like a disappointed friend, "Morose Monday. Dear Anthony, is it us? … We waited, but you didn’t show."
Nearly a week passed before Akers finally showed up. He shared a selfie outside the station and jokingly called it a "date." He thanked the police for letting him handle things on his own and said he expected to spend a month inside.
Cerise Peck, a crime prevention expert with the police, said this was the first time a wanted person had openly replied to a post. Akers was arrested peacefully. The Facebook thread remains a rare mix of humor, delay, and public chat that ended at the police station.
