Kerala Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar has urged voters to set an example for India by achieving 100% turnout in the upcoming Legislative Assembly elections. Speaking at the National Voters Day celebration on Sunday, he said Kerala, known for high literacy and social reforms, must lead the nation in voting participation. "That should be our target," the Governor said. He emphasized voting in a free, fair, and wise manner. The Governor pointed out that Kerala has 1,579 voters over 100 years old, calling them "icons." State Election Commissioner A. Shajahan highlighted that maintaining a "pure and accurate" voters' list is everyone's responsibility, including political parties, officials, and citizens. He said the 2025 local body elections will test democratic strength. An accurate voters' list protects every citizen's right and prevents disenfranchisement, Mr. Shajahan added. Chief Electoral Officer Rathan U. Kelkar welcomed attendees and said this year's National Voters Day theme, ‘My India, My Vote,’ reminds all that democracy starts with the people. Governor Arlekar also inaugurated a 'Virtual Reality Polling Booth' and presented awards. District Collectors and election officials were present at the event.
