Andhra Pradesh Village Surveyors Threaten Work Halt Over Pay and Equipment Demands
January 25, 2026
Village surveyors in Andhra Pradesh are set to stop their ongoing resurvey work starting Tuesday, January 27, if the government does not meet their demands. Around 9,500 surveyors across the State find their work difficult due to lack of proper gadgets like laptops and rovers, many supervisors causing coordination issues, and long working hours under tight deadlines. Over 2,000 members of the Village Surveyors Association of Andhra Pradesh (VSAAP) met in Tirupati on Sunday for their 5th State conference. They expressed frustration over what they called "step-motherly treatment" compared to staff in other wings of the Gram and Ward Secretariat department. The surveyors demand a basic pay of ₹32,000 for those with at least five years of service. Association president B. Madhu Babu said 4,722 village surveyors should be absorbed into allied departments through a counselling process, as part of rationalisation. They also want diploma to be the minimum qualification and a technical pay-scale since they have skills in QGIS, CORS, and AutoCAD. General secretary M. Mahesh Naidu added, "Recognising our importance, the government should also offer Grade-I promotion up to 70% at the district level." The surveyors warn their work will be stalled if these demands are ignored.
