Minister for Water Resources and Katpadi MLA Duraimurugan will inaugurate the 300-bed District Government Headquarters Hospital in Gudiyatham town, Vellore, on Monday, January 26, 2026. The AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami announced a protest scheduled for Tuesday, January 27, against the delay in opening the hospital. The new five-storey hospital, built by the Public Works Department at a cost of ₹40 crore, is equipped with ECG, CT scan, operation theatres, and round-the-clock power supply backed by diesel generators. Residents like K. Pavan welcomed the facility, saying, "The facility will benefit residents in the 80 villages near Gudiyatham. Until now, they had to travel to the Vellore Medical College Hospital, which is around 40 km away, for advanced treatment. Accident victims will also get timely treatment at this new facility." Currently, Gudiyatham has a 190-bed taluk hospital built in the 1950s that serves about 1,500 out-patients daily. Most serious cases are sent to the Government Medical College Hospital near Vellore. Spread over 5 acres, the new hospital includes departments for cardiology, neurology, paediatrics, nephrology, obstetrics, and gynaecology. It also has special wards for emergencies, cancer treatment, sedation, and x-rays. Out-patients will have five dedicated rooms. The hospital features two elevators, drinking water facilities, separate washrooms on each floor, a rainwater harvesting system, solar panels, and CCTV surveillance. Separate parking is available for cars and two-wheelers. Officials said bus services would be increased to improve access to the hospital for patients and visitors.
