Minneapolis Indian Eatery Closes, Serves Free Samosas to Protest ICE Surge
January 25, 2026
In Minneapolis, Curry Corner, a popular Indian restaurant, has temporarily closed because of rising safety worries linked to the increased ICE presence in the city. In a post on Instagram, the eatery said, “Due to ongoing safety concerns in Minneapolis, we’ve made the very difficult decision to temporarily close to protect our team.” The closure is a big blow for this small family business. To help staff through this tough time, Curry Corner launched a GoFundMe campaign, raising over $25,000 of its $26,000 goal so far.
Despite closing its doors, the restaurant is showing solidarity with anti-ICE protesters by giving out warm samosas and meals in downtown Minneapolis. The restaurant captioned a video with, “We are closed but we are still gonna go out and support our community.” This move is part of a larger protest wave after two fatally shot Minneapolis residents sparked outrage against the ICE agency.
On Friday, around 300 businesses, including Curry Corner, paused work to protest ICE. The demonstrations began after a tragic shooting on January 7, 2026, when Renee Nicole Good was killed by an ICE agent, leading to ongoing marches and calls for ICE agents to leave the city. Curry Corner stands with the community by feeding protestors and raising awareness.
