Bengaluru Police Book 12,207 One-Way Driving Cases in Four Days Special Drive
January 25, 2026
Bengaluru Traffic Police (BTP) booked 12,207 cases of one-way driving violations in a four-day special drive. The East Division saw the most cases at 3,140, followed by North Division with 2,955, South Division with 2,904, and West Division with 2,308 cases. The drive was launched after 2025 ASTraM data showed a rise in one-way driving violations and several videos on social media demanded action. A senior police officer said, “Unless regular special drives are conducted and enforcement is tightened, such violations would continue to rise. Therefore, a special drive was launched.” The BTP plans to expand the drive to include helmetless riding and other frequent traffic violations. Additionally, towing operations will soon restart. Three divisions have received towing vehicles, and one more division will get them shortly. “We are awaiting the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) order. The police have made all arrangements, and once the circular is issued, we will begin enforcement,” the officer told The Hindu. The BTP will also meet companies along Outer Ring Road in the East Division to discuss further traffic control measures. Bengaluru was recently ranked second among the world's most congested cities by the TomTom Traffic Index.
