A forensic report has found traces of semen on the clothes of a NEET aspirant girl who died in Patna on January 11. The girl was found unconscious in her hostel on January 6 and died five days later in hospital. The State government formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) after the post-mortem report revealed "physical injuries and marks of violence" and said "sexual violence cannot be ruled out." Earlier, police had denied any sexual assault. On January 10, the family gave some of her clothes to police, which were sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL). The FSL found semen traces and is preparing a DNA profile. The DNA will be compared to the arrested accused and other suspects identified by the SIT. The post-mortem report from Patna Medical College and Hospital showed multiple nail abrasion marks and injuries. Two police officers, Assistant Inspector Hemant Jha and Sub-Inspector Roshni Kumari, have been suspended for failing to promptly collect information. The girl’s parents had said she was sexually assaulted, which police denied. The hostel owner was arrested. A five-member medical board from Patna AIIMS stated the SIT has not yet shared all key documents needed to give a full opinion on the case. Dr Binay Kumar, head of the medical board, said more documents are awaited before conclusions can be made.
