On Republic Day 2026, 31 Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officers received prestigious police medals for their outstanding work. Joint Director V. Chandrasekhar, a 2000-batch IPS officer from Gujarat, won the President's Medal for Distinguished Service. He led the investigation into the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at Kolkata's R.G. Kar Medical College, resulting in a swift conviction of the main accused. Other officers awarded the President’s Medal include Superintendent Amit Srivastava, Additional Superintendent Mukesh Sharma, Sub-Inspector Pramod Kumar Yati, Assistant Sub-Inspector Chaman Lal, and Head Constable Ramu Golla. Twenty-five officers received the Police Medal for Meritorious Service. Among them were Joint Director C Venkata Subba Reddy and Sadanand Shakarrao Date, noted for handling major fraud cases and the murder of rationalist Narendra Dabholkar. Additional awards went to several Deputy and Assistant Superintendents, inspectors, programmers, and constables for meritorious police service across various units of the agency. The government issued the medal list on January 25, 2026.
