Dubai Woman Loses Dh10,000 in Social Media Domestic Worker Scam, Police Warn Public
January 25, 2026
Dubai Police have issued a fresh warning after a woman lost Dh10,000 to a fake domestic worker recruitment office promoted on social media. The woman was looking for help around the house when she saw an attractive ad offering domestic workers with good terms. She contacted the number and was told a suitable worker was ready. Captain Abdullah Khalfan Al Mansouri of Dubai Police explained that the scammers asked for staged payments — first a deposit, then a delivery fee, and finally the full payment. Trusting them, the woman transferred the money in parts, totaling Dh10,000. Soon after, all messages stopped and the scammers vanished. Captain Al Mansouri said, "This method is one of the most common forms of online fraud, where scammers divide payments into stages to build trust before taking the full amount and vanishing." Dubai Police stress that people seeking domestic help should only use licensed and accredited recruitment offices in the UAE. The Anti-Fraud Centre warns that scammers are pretending to be recruitment agencies to illegally collect money. Authorities advise the public to verify agencies before giving any personal information or money. They also urge reporting suspicious activity via the Dubai Police Smart App, the eCrime platform, Police Eye service, or by calling 901 for non-emergency cases.
