Russia Fires Over 370 Drones, 21 Missiles at Ukraine During Peace Talks in Abu Dhabi
January 24, 2026
Russia launched more than 370 drones and 21 missiles at Ukraine overnight, Kyiv said on Saturday. Ukraine accused Moscow of trying to disrupt peace talks happening in Abu Dhabi with Russia and the United States.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga said, “Peace efforts? Trilateral meeting in the UAE? Diplomacy? For Ukrainians, this was another night of Russian terror.” He added, “Cynically, Putin ordered a brutal massive missile strike against Ukraine right while delegations are meeting in Abu Dhabi to advance the America-led peace process. His missiles hit not only our people, but also the negotiation table,” as reported by AFP.
President Volodymyr Zelensky reported the strike involved “over 370 attack drones and 21 missiles of various types,” calling it one of the heaviest attacks in recent weeks.
The attack happened as Ukrainian and Russian officials discussed a US-backed peace proposal, starting on Friday. Ukraine’s chief negotiator and Defence Minister Rustem Umerov said the talks focused “on the parameters for ending Russia's war and the further logic of the negotiation process.”
However, the peace plan faces resistance. The initial US draft was criticized in Kyiv and Western Europe for being too close to Moscow’s view. Later versions upset Russia due to proposals like the possible deployment of European peacekeepers.
Both countries agree that the status of the eastern Donbas region is a major unresolved issue.
The conflict has killed tens of thousands, displaced millions, and destroyed much of Ukraine.
Negotiations in Abu Dhabi continue amid doubts if peace efforts can succeed while fighting goes on.
