Bengaluru police have arrested three men, including Naveen (30), a rowdy-sheeter who runs a paying guest (PG) near a private college in Devanahalli. The arrests followed a street fight triggered by a ragging incident involving first-year BBA and BSc students. According to a complaint from the college's admission head, at least 21 seniors ragged the juniors by making them carry bags and buy cigarettes. The admission head warned two students, Shamil and Bilal, but they allegedly assaulted juniors again and forced them to buy drinks and cigarettes on January 15. When the admission head spoke to the seniors at a nearby tea stall, a fight broke out. Naveen and other seniors assaulted the juniors and also attacked the college official. A senior police officer said Naveen runs the PG near the college and believed a professor favored a rival PG run by a Kerala-based man. This rivalry added fuel to the fight. The police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Bengaluru Night Shelter (BNS), 2023, and the Karnataka Education Act. Other accused have been summoned for questioning.
