The FBI arrested Ryan Wedding in Mexico, marking the agency's 500th capture on its Ten Most Wanted list. FBI Director Kash Patel called Wedding a "modern day Pablo Escobar." Wedding, 44, has been on the FBI radar since March 2024. Authorities say he is part of the Sinaloa Cartel and ran a drug trafficking network for over ten years while hiding in Mexico. Patel confirmed Wedding shipped hundreds of kilograms of cocaine from Colombia through Mexico and Southern California to the U.S. and Canada. Attorney General Pam Bondi said Wedding was flown to the U.S., “where he will face justice.” Bondi praised the efforts of Ambassador Ron Johnson and Mexican authorities. Wedding is charged with attempted murder and other drug-related offenses. In November, a grand jury indicted him for the death of a federal witness who was allegedly killed after Wedding put a bounty on him. The witness was fatally shot at a restaurant. Wedding was a Canadian Olympian in 2002. Prosecutors say he entered the drug world in 2008 after being arrested for buying cocaine from an undercover agent in San Diego. After serving 48 months in prison, he built his own drug empire. In January, Wedding made headlines by making his social media profiles public and posting photos of luxury motorcycles and watches, despite being a fugitive.
