Telangana to Set Up 25 EV Charging Stations for 2,200 Electric Buses in Hyderabad

Telangana is moving fast to boost electric public transport. The Southern Power Distribution Company of Telangana Ltd (TGSPDCL) will set up 25 electric vehicle charging stations at Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) bus depots inside Greater Hyderabad. TGSRTC plans to launch 2,200 electric buses in these limits by year-end. A coordination meeting at TGSPDCL headquarters on Thursday discussed the electricity connection needs for these charging points. Besides Hyderabad, TGSPDCL will install two stations in Suryapet and one each at Sangareddy and Nalgonda depots. The project requires about 124 megawatts of power. The meeting covered the infrastructure needed and steps to lay electricity lines. TGSRTC Vice Chairman & Managing Director Y. Nagi Reddy said, "plans were being made to introduce electric buses on a large scale in the Greater Hyderabad area by the year-end." Space for switching stations or substations will be arranged at available locations. Southern Discom Chairman & Managing Director Md. Musharraf Faruqui instructed officials to review TGSRTC's applications, prepare cost estimates by February 1, and begin the work immediately. Other officials present included V. Anila, Vice Chairman & Managing Director of Telangana Renewable Energy Development Corporation, TGSPDCL directors V. Shivaji, B. Narasimhulu, and Chakrapani, along with TGSRTC executive directors M. Rajasekhar and Munishekar.
