Apple Asks Indian Court to Halt CCI’s Probe Over App Store Financial Data
January 23, 2026
Apple has asked the Delhi High Court to stop India’s antitrust watchdog, the Competition Commission of India (CCI), from seeking its global financial records. This request comes amid a long-running investigation into Apple’s app store policies. The CCI accuses Apple of abusing its dominant position, charges that Apple strongly denies. Apple fears that if the CCI uses its global turnover in penalties, it could face fines up to $38 billion. The company has challenged India’s penalty rules for 2024 in court, calling them invalid. Despite this, the CCI ordered Apple on December 31 to provide financial documents. Apple’s recent court filing dated January 15 asks the court to halt CCI’s actions and suspend the investigation until the penalty rules’ legality is decided. Apple argues that complying now would undermine its legal challenge. The CCI says these rules are needed to prevent multinational firms from breaking laws. The Delhi High Court will hear the case on January 27, 2026. Neither Apple nor CCI responded to Reuters’ requests for comment.
