AI-Powered Smart Vision Glasses Ultra Launched to Aid Visually Impaired
January 22, 2026
A new AI-powered assistive eyewear called Smart Vision Glasses Ultra was launched on Thursday at a city eye hospital. Developed by SHG Technologies and clinically validated by Narayana Nethralaya, the device supports people with complete visual impairment in daily tasks. The glasses look like normal stylish eyewear but use Artificial Intelligence to help users read text in several languages, recognise currency notes, identify objects and faces, and safely move around. At the launch, Dr. Anand Vinekar of Narayana Nethralaya said that 5 to 7 million people in India have irreversible vision loss. "For them, vision loss should not mean the end of independence," he added. The glasses were created through collaboration between the hospital’s Buds to Blossoms clinic and SHG Technologies. User Ramamurthy showed how the glasses helped him read news, spot currency, and identify people with ease. SHG’s CEO Seetharam Muthangi said the device was designed to avoid the social stigma of visible medical aids. "They simply want to look like everyone else," he explained, describing the glasses as sleek, wireless, and fashion-forward rather than bulky or wired. This product brings high-tech assistance into a form people can comfortably wear every day.
