A fresh encounter broke out on January 22 between security forces and terrorists holed up in the dense forests of Singhpora in Jammu and Kashmir's Kishtwar district. The operation started on January 18 in Sonnar village near Mandral-Singhpora in the Chatroo belt, following gunfire that killed one paratrooper and injured seven soldiers. Officials said heavy firing was ongoing when the last reports came in. Efforts continue to neutralise the terrorists. On January 19, a major terrorist hideout was found nearby, and several individuals were taken in for questioning. Officials believe two to three terrorists from the Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) group are trapped in this encounter.
