Rebecca White, 44, a therapist in Orange County, Florida, was stabbed to death late Monday by a former patient who forced his way into her office. Michael Smith, 39, arrived unannounced during an evening session and demanded to speak with White. She asked him to leave and called 911. Moments later, Smith stabbed her and attacked another patient who tried to help. White was taken to hospital but died from her injuries. The other victim, a man in his 30s, had surgery and is in critical condition but expected to recover. Smith fled and was found dead by suicide hours later. Authorities have not shared details on how he died or why he attacked. White was a Licensed Mental Health Counselor since 2008 and founded Down to Earth Therapy Solutions in Orlando in 2022. She focused on helping clients with a compassionate, judgment-free approach. Fellow therapists expressed shock and grief on social media. White’s family raised questions about office security and how Smith could enter after hours, calling the loss "irreplaceable" and possibly preventable. Records show Smith was a registered sex offender with a long criminal record, including 22 years in prison for kidnapping, burglary, and sexual battery from a 2003 violent home invasion. DNA linked Smith to that crime. The investigation into the attack is ongoing.
