Bengaluru to Resume Towing of Wrongly Parked Vehicles Next Week with City Corporation Help
January 21, 2026
Bengaluru’s city corporations have procured towing vehicles. Towing of wrongly parked vehicles will start again next week. East and South police divisions already got two tow vehicles each. North and West divisions will get theirs soon. West Corporation Commissioner K.V. Rajendra said, “We are procuring 10 towing vehicles, and one will be allotted to each constituency.” Initially, towing will focus on busy roads with heavy vehicle parking.
Earlier, towing stopped due to complaints of harassment by private towing agencies. In 2022, then Home Minister Araga Jnanendra ordered the halt after videos showed agents troubling motorists for money. To fix this, private players have been removed from towing. City corporations will now handle towing while police oversee penalty fines.
The police and city corporations agreed to share fine revenues. The Bengaluru Traffic Police (BTP) plan to deploy tow trucks on at least 15 of 96 key traffic corridors. Earlier, towing fines raised ₹4-5 crore yearly. Now the expected revenue is around ₹1 crore as towing starts in selected areas only.
