Bhajan Clubbing: Gen-Z's New Way to Celebrate Spiritual Music in Nightclub Style
January 20, 2026
Rehmat Khubchandani danced with joy at a bhajan clubbing event in Chennai. The music had a club vibe but was filled with bhajans and spiritual songs. Some danced; others clapped with closed eyes. Rehmat said, "I have never experienced something like this. It feels like a party, but with vibes that connect you with up there."
Bhajan clubbing is spreading to cities like Delhi, Kolkata, Bengaluru, and even the US. Mostly Gen-Z enjoys it as it offers a feeling of community, different from social media scrolling. Mandira Bansal said, "It is like entering a world of trance. It might be a Gen-Z concept, but it’s wonderful. Why else would we be swaying to such tracks?"
The songs include popular spiritual tracks like 'Dama Dam Mast Qalandar' and bhajans dedicated to Shiva, Rama, and Muruga. Unlike traditional worship settings, this style is energetic and modern. Bands such as Backstage Siblings and Keshavam are leading this trend, with Chennai singers like Sai Vignesh also making a mark. Sai Vignesh stated, "I have been singing bhajans for years, but the word bhajan clubbing will take some time to get used to. You don’t even need to know the full bhajan to enjoy this. The main motto is to make people come together."
Singer Saindhavi added, "We grew up listening to bhajans, but the current generation might not be too exposed to these tracks. Now, they are packaged within a different soundscape, but the divinity is still the same."
Social media reels and posts are helping bhajan clubbing go viral, making it not just music but a joyful celebration of spirituality.
