Telangana Rolls Out AI-Based Safety Tech for 3 Crore at Medaram Jatara 2026
January 20, 2026
The Telangana Government has prepared a strong technology-based safety plan for the Medaram Sammakka–Saralamma Maha Jatara from January 28 to 31. The event is expected to draw about three crore devotees. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy recently visited Medaram to check preparations and opened a Command and Control Centre (CCC). This centre will monitor crowd movement, security forces, and emergency actions in real time.
For the first time, the jatara will use a geo-tag Missing Persons Tracking System, similar to the one used at Sabarimala. Children and elderly devotees will get QR-code geo tags at registration counters on Pasra and SS Tadwai routes. These tags help quickly find and reunite anyone who gets separated. Mulugu SP Sudhir Ramnath Kekan said, "Nearly 30,000 people went missing last time and were later found. This system will prevent delays."
Under the "Medaram 2.0" plan, the government also introduced AI-powered drones named ‘TG-QUEST’. These drones provide live video feeds to police and use AI to analyze the scenes instantly. They cover nearly 30 square kilometers including forest areas, Jampannavagu stream, and main roads.
Helium balloons with pan-tilt-zoom cameras will watch over crowded and stampede-prone zones from above. This setup helps spot risky crowd pressures early. About 13,000 police officers are deployed with technical support and 12 special crime teams ready to maintain order.
Face recognition technology is active in hospitals and parking areas to catch repeat offenders. There is also a real-time alert to detect suspicious items.
SP Kekan commented, "AI, drones, and real-time monitoring will ensure no devotee goes missing and the world’s largest tribal festival remains safe and smooth."
