Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah Vows No Voter Left Out in Election Commission Revision
January 19, 2026
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said on Monday that the Congress party does not see the Election Commission's Special Intensive Revision (SIR) as a political issue. Speaking to reporters in Nandagad near Khanapur in Belagavi district, he said, "We will not do politics over SIR." His main concern is that no eligible voter is left out of the electoral rolls.
He mentioned reports about over 3 crore voters' names having mismatches in the Election Commission's preliminary mapping exercise. "However, we will take steps to ensure that no voter suffers injustice. We are issuing instructions to booth level officers and other officers to carry out the SIR process with care, caution, and responsibility and to see that no eligible voter is left out," he stated.
On the demand to use ballot papers in the Greater Bengaluru Authority and other local body polls, Siddaramaiah said the government supports using ballot papers for all such elections. He also targeted Opposition leader G. Janardhana Reddy, saying, "G. Janardhana Reddy who has gone to jail for looting the State, has no moral authority to make allegations against our government. Mr. Reddy has come out on bail and the case is still pending in the Supreme Court. The Opposition is busy making false allegations and is misleading the people. If the Opposition has anything of substance to say, it should discuss it in the special session starting on January 22."
Regarding the Maharashtra-Karnataka State border dispute due for hearing on January 21 in the Supreme Court, Siddaramaiah said Karnataka will engage experienced lawyers. "We will raise the question of jurisdiction and maintainability. We will argue that this issue should be resolved first. Our legal team is ready to present arguments against the petition filed by the Maharashtra government," he added.
Commenting on the Governor returning the Internal Reservation Bill, the CM said that appropriate explanations will be given to address the Governor’s queries. He also said he would visit New Delhi if called by the party leadership.
