Project X Launches Sexuality Education Campaign in Colleges Across Thiruvananthapuram
January 19, 2026
The district administration teamed up with Kanal Innovations Charitable Trust to start Project X, a new campaign called ‘Talking Sex with Project X.’ This programme will give college students comprehensive sexuality education (CSE). The launch took place at Loyola College of Social Sciences, Sreekaryam, led by District Assistant Collector Sivashaktivel C. Dr. Sivashaktivel said sexuality education is key for student growth and praised the expansion of Project X into Pathanamthitta district as important.
Surveys were done in seven colleges in Thiruvananthapuram under the Collector’s Campus Connect Programme. The colleges involved were Government College Karyavattom, Loyola College of Social Sciences Sreekaryam, M.G. College Kesavadasapuram, Government Sanskrit College, Iqbal College Peringamala, Government Arts College Thycaud, and Sree Chitra Thirunal College of Engineering Pappanamcode.
The survey showed 76% of students had never been taught comprehensive sexuality education. Only one-third understood when consent was given. About 33.7% were not ready to take responsibility in sexual relationships, while only 26.2% accepted full responsibility. This shows a big gap in knowledge about accountability. Just 10.4% of students said career and financial independence were more important than marriage, indicating many still hold traditional views.
The survey found 39% felt current gender identity terms did not express them well, and 32.6% did not agree that sexuality is a personal choice. More than half (55.2%) noticed that pornography affects ideas about intimacy. Students also said sexual jokes are common and hurt awareness of consent.
Nearly half the students said the sessions helped them understand sexuality education. Many found gender and sex topics especially useful.
The campaign plans to reach more colleges to help young people know their rights and responsibilities clearly, said Anson P.D. Alexander, director of Kanal Innovations. The event was presided over by Fr. Saji S.J., vice principal of Loyola College of Social Sciences. Nisha Jolly Nelson, Sociology head, was also present. Project X is supported by CSR partner Guidehouse India Pvt. Ltd.
