January 19, 2026
The Election Commission of India (ECI) has extended the deadline for filing claims and objections related to the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Tamil Nadu. The new deadline is January 30, 2026, said Chief Electoral Officer Archana Patnaik on Monday, January 19. Earlier, the deadline was January 18, which just ended on Sunday. The Commission urges all eligible citizens to use this additional time to submit their claims or objections concerning the voter list. The Special Intensive Revision started in October 2025, with January 1, 2026, as the qualifying date. Draft electoral rolls were published on December 19, 2025. Initially, claims and objections could be filed only between December 19, 2025, and January 18, 2026. The extension was granted considering all relevant factors and under the powers of Rule 12 of the Registration of Electors Rules, 1960.
