On the night of January 18, 2026, the Erode district police arrested two members of Jananaayaga Elurchi Kazhagam. They are K. Silambarasan, 36, from Mamarathupalayam, and J. Abdul Malik, 20, from B.P. Agraharam. The police said they posted provocative content on social media. These posts allegedly targeted Karnataka residents and spread messages that could harm peace between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. The content included opposition to Karnataka-registered vehicles entering Tamil Nadu. It could have provoked unrest and law-and-order problems. The police registered a case at Erode North Police Station. The accused were taken to court and sent to judicial custody. Superintendent of Police A. Sujatha warned, "Stringent legal action would be taken against individuals who create, share, or forward social media content that promotes enmity on the basis of caste, religion, or between States, or that threatens public peace."
