Dubai's RTA Launches Luxury SUV Pooled Transport for Students to Cut Traffic
January 19, 2026
Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has started a pilot program offering luxury SUV rides to students aged 14 and above. The program replaces traditional yellow school buses with tech-enabled pooled transport. Launched in January 2026, it targets students in high-traffic school areas like Al Barsha. Instead of waiting at fixed stops, students are picked up from their neighborhoods, travelling together in shared SUVs. Routes are planned daily using data from Yango Group and Urban Express to keep commute times under 60 minutes.
This pooling method helps reduce private cars near school gates during busy mornings. The service costs AED 1,000 per month, which is about 15% cheaper than traditional options. Parents can track rides live via an app, while safety is ensured with RTA-certified drivers and smart monitoring.
Ahmed Hashem Bahrozyan, CEO of the Public Transport Agency, called this pilot a "step-change" in daily travel. If the trial succeeds in cutting congestion in Al Barsha, RTA plans to expand the service to more Dubai school districts by September 2026. This new approach aims to put 60% of students in shared transport, easing traffic for everyone in the busy morning rush.
