Delhi to Close Key Roads Jan 17-21 for Republic Day Parade Rehearsals
January 19, 2026
Delhi Police announced traffic restrictions on major crossings from January 17 to 21, 2026, during Republic Day parade rehearsals along Kartavya Path. Roads from Vijay Chowk to India Gate will be closed daily from 10:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The parade route extends up to the C-Hexagon, where traffic crossings at Rafi Marg, Janpath, Man Singh Road, and the C-Hexagon will remain shut. The Kartavya Path section between Vijay Chowk and India Gate will be closed for all general traffic, causing diversions and possible congestion on nearby roads. The Rashtrapati Bhavan (Circuit 1) will also be closed to the public from January 21 to 29. Authorities suggested alternate routes for north-south travelers using Ring Road via Sarai Kale Khan and I.P. flyover, and for east-west traffic via Ring Road through Bhairon Road and Mathura Road. For central Delhi and Connaught Place movements, routes like Mother Teresa Crescent and Baba Kharak Singh Marg are advised. Motorists heading to New Delhi are recommended to use Sardar Patel Marg and Park Street with alternate links. Commuters should allow extra travel time or reschedule travel plans during these hours. Using public transport like Delhi Metro can ease movement. Authorities warned that traffic plans may change suddenly due to security needs. Stay updated with official alerts and follow instructions from traffic personnel to ensure smooth travel during rehearsals.
