The Telangana government has notified reservation rules for municipal local body polls. This includes 121 municipal councils and 10 municipal corporations. The reservation follows the 2011 census, the Dedicated Commission report for BCs, and the Telangana Municipal Act 2019. SCs and STs will get one mayor each. BCs get three mayor posts, including one for women. There are four general posts reserved for women and one unreserved. For municipality chairpersons, STs get five posts, including two for women. SCs get 17 posts, with eight reserved for women. BCs get 38 posts, including 19 for women. Among 61 unreserved posts, 31 are for women. In the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) with 300 wards, five are for STs (two for women), 23 for SCs (11 for women), and 122 for BCs (61 for women). Another 76 wards are reserved for women and 74 remain unreserved. The same reservation formula applies to the other 121 municipalities. The orders were issued by Municipal Administration and Urban Development Secretary T.K. Sreedevi on Wednesday night.
