Parents Allege Bias at Texas Tech After Medical Student Vaibhav Duggal’s Suicide
January 17, 2026
Five months after Vaibhav Duggal, a third-year medical student at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Medicine, died by suicide, his parents spoke out. They accuse the university of showing clear bias.
Vaibhav was accused of breaching professionalism based on a complaint from a female patient. His parents say no proper process was followed, and the university took the patient's side without hearing Vaibhav's version.
The patient complained about feeling uncomfortable during an STD test at the OB/GYN clinic where Vaibhav was on duty. She said Vaibhav asked personal questions like, "Would your boyfriend get mad at me if..." and complimented her abs. She also alleged Vaibhav asked to follow her on Instagram and sent messages that made her uneasy.
This incident happened in early July 2025. Vaibhav was removed from clinic duties until August but tragically took his life on July 29.
Vaibhav's parents highlighted his excellent academic record, calling him a "summa cum laude" graduate from Texas A&M with a perfect 4.0 GPA.
They said, "They did not dig into the complaints to see what really happened...he was a student at that time and did what he was taught." They questioned why Vaibhav was allowed to interact with patients without clear guidance.
Vaibhav's mother shared a YouTube video saying, "There are a lot of people in the email thread. But not a single person stepped up and tried to find out exactly what happened. Nobody did their job. Nobody spoke to Vaibhav. If this happens to my son, this can happen to everyone."
