January 17, 2026
The survivor-nun in the sexual abuse case against Bishop Franco Mulakkal, living at St Francis Mission Home, Kuravilangad, Kottayam, welcomed the Kerala government's move to appoint a special public prosecutor on Saturday, January 17, 2026. She openly revealed her identity and expressed gratitude that her request was accepted. "I am grateful that the government, the Chief Minister, and the public have supported me," she said. The nun confirmed the legal battle against the Bishop will go on. The government chose former Law Secretary B.G. Harindranath as the special public prosecutor, exactly who the survivor had sought. Recently, the Civil Supplies department issued ration cards to her and two other nuns living with her. The nuns had been living isolated lives within the convent, struggling even for basic needs like food.
