Security forces in Manipur arrested four militants linked to banned outfits for extortion activities. Police said the raids happened last week across Kangpokpi, Churachandpur, Bishnupur, and Imphal West districts. A woman cadre of the proscribed People's Liberation Army was caught at her home in Tera Loukrakpam, Imphal West on January 16. "Extortion money amounting to ₹1 lakh was recovered from her possession," a senior officer said. A 22-year-old member of the banned Prepak (Pro) was arrested from Phoijing Tera Makhong in Bishnupur on January 16. Another active Prepak member was captured from Karang Maning area the same day. Additionally, a 31-year-old member of the outlawed Kangleipak Communist Party (Taibanganba) was detained from Wangoo Ahallup, Bishnupur district on January 15. Alongside these arrests, security teams destroyed about 65 acres of illegal poppy fields. "A combined team of security forces and the forest department destroyed around 55 acres of poppy cultivation at S. Khonomphai and Denglen villages in Kangpokpi on January 15," an officer reported. They also demolished four temporary huts, fertilizer bags, equipment, and herbicides used for farming. In Churachandpur, the police, forest department, and executive magistrate destroyed 10 acres of poppy cultivation in the Suangkhong hill range, along with salt, urea, and sprayers found at the site. These coordinated raids aim to weaken militant groups and halt illegal narcotic farming in the region.
