In Sylhet district of Bangladesh, a mob set fire to the house of Hindu schoolteacher Birendra Kumar Dey and his family on Wednesday afternoon. The family escaped safely without injury, thanks to the help of local villagers. Birendra Dey, known as 'Jhunu Sir', is a popular teacher in Bahor village. This incident highlights growing violence against the Hindu minority before the February 12 parliamentary elections. Since December 18, after the lynching of garment worker Dipu Chandra Das, eight Hindus have died from such attacks. Their properties, including homes and land, have been damaged, grabbed, or burned. Rights groups have reported over 51 violent incidents targeting Hindus. The situation is alarming for minorities across Bangladesh. In the UK parliament, lawmaker Bob Blackman condemned the violence on Thursday, calling it "disastrous." He said minorities are being murdered and their houses and temples set on fire. Blackman also raised concerns over the fairness of the upcoming elections amid these issues.
