Several students got hurt when a bus overturned near Kallambalam at about 3:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 17, 2026. The bus was carrying around 42 students from a private engineering college in Thrissur district. They were on their way to Vizhinjam port for a study tour. The accident happened when the bus, coming from the service road of the national highway, crashed into a house compound and fell on its side. Those injured, including bus crew members, were taken to the Medical College Hospital at Paripally and a nearby private hospital for treatment.
