Pakistani Man’s Viral Plea for Canadian Defence Jobs Sparks Online Debate on Immigration
January 17, 2026
Canada's Department of National Defence announced on X that it is hiring workers across the country for various positions, including trades helpers, labourers, and drivers. They said applicants could apply by March 31. Ajaz Khan, a user from Pakistan, asked the department if he could apply from outside Canada. The department responded, “Canadian citizens, persons residing in Canada, and Permanent residents abroad can apply.” When Khan asked if he could apply directly from Pakistan, the department clarified, “To apply you must be a permanent resident of Canada.”
Khan then inquired about any upcoming sponsorship visa jobs. He explained, “No dear I am in Pakistan i need a sponsership job in Canada any province any program any job I am interested only need a job.” Some users warned him about challenges, including deportation, while others said Canada does not currently need more immigrants, citing housing struggles. Khan responded, “I just need a job, so that I can take good care of my family. In Canada, the income is much better compared to Pakistan. By living there, I’ll send some money back to Pakistan for my family, so that they can also live comfortably.”
According to the 2021 Canadian Census, over 303,000 Canadians reported Pakistani ancestry. Many live in cities like Toronto, Alberta, and British Columbia. Pakistan ranks among the top sources of recent immigrants to Canada, with tens of thousands gaining permanent residency via family and skilled worker programs by 2024.
