Idukki DTPC Launches Digital Booking for Kolukkumala Safari to Stop Overcharging
January 16, 2026
Idukki District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC) has moved the booking process for the popular Suryanelli-Kolukkumala off-road safari to a fully digital system. This change aims to stop the usual overcharging by Multi-Utility Vehicle (MUV) drivers. According to Idukki DTPC secretary Jitheesh Jose, “Tourists can now book safari tickets through the website https://kolukkumalaijeepsafari.com. The rate is fixed at ₹3,100 for six persons. Visitors can book tickets up to three days in advance and select their preferred vehicles.” A total of 280 MUVs have been permitted to operate the safari between 4:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Tourists only need to show their online booking details at the Suryanelli booking counter. Mr. Jose added, “We hope the online system will make it easier for them to book their seats without any hurdles.” The Kolukkumala safari is a hot favorite in the district. It takes visitors through a vast tea estate located about 7,900 feet above sea level. Last December, the DTPC arranged 8,537 trips for nearly 50,000 tourists who enjoyed the thrilling safari. This digital booking move promises a hassle-free and fair experience for all visitors.
