The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) announced the election schedule for its national president on Friday, January 16, 2026. Nominations for the post will be filed on January 19 between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. Candidates can withdraw their nominations from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. the same day. "The scrutiny of nomination papers will happen between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. on January 19," said K. Laxman, BJP national returning officer and Rajya Sabha MP. Voting will take place "if needed" on January 20, and the official announcement of the new party president will be made that day. The entire election process will occur at BJP headquarters. Party sources say BJP national working president Nitin Nabin is likely to be elected unopposed. It is unlikely any other leader will challenge him. Nitin Nabin is expected to replace J.P. Nadda as BJP president. Top BJP leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah support Nabin's candidature.
