Trump Allies Chase $200M Bosnia Pipeline Deal to Cut Russian Gas Dependence
January 16, 2026
Jesse Binnall and Joe Flynn, known for working on Donald Trump's 2020 election challenges, are now seeking a $200 million contract for the Southern Gas Interconnection pipeline in Bosnia. This new pipeline aims to reduce the Balkans’ dependency on Russian gas. The 146-mile pipeline would link Bosnia to a liquefied natural gas terminal in Croatia, allowing energy imports from the US and other countries. According to Binnall, their company, AAFS Infrastructure and Energy, is still in the early stages and has not won the contract yet. Binnall said, "Meetings with Bosnian ministers were exploratory as we assess the potential project." The US embassy supported the company's meetings in Sarajevo, emphasizing efforts to develop American business abroad. Bosnia currently imports nearly all gas from Russia. The project started after Bosnian authorities agreed that US firms would build and operate the pipeline following Trump’s election. AAFS, a new Wyoming-based company with no clear industry track record, claims to have staff with decades of experience. Binnall, a Virginia lawyer who worked to challenge Trump’s 2020 election loss, and Flynn, who previously opposed President Joe Biden’s victory, are leading this effort. Interestingly, Joe Flynn’s brother, Michael Flynn, a former Trump national security advisor pardoned in 2020, supports Bosnia's pro-Russian Serb leader Milorad Dodik. The Trump family has also pursued other projects in the Balkans, including a stalled $500m Trump Tower in Belgrade. Bosnia’s foreign ministry confirmed that recent talks have reaffirmed commitments to boost cooperation and speed up infrastructure projects.
