On January 15, 2026, the Election Commission of India (ECI) denied West Bengal's proposal to accept Class 10 (madhyamik) admit cards for voter verification. The West Bengal chief electoral officer had requested this during the ongoing special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The ECI said in its communication that madhyamik admit cards are not listed as admissible documents for the SIR process. According to instructions issued on October 27, 2025, for SIR in West Bengal, madhyamik admit cards are not valid for verification. "In view of the above, the commission is of the opinion that the proposal to accept the madhyamik admit card as a valid document cannot be acceded to," the ECI stated. The poll panel has informed the State authorities of this decision.
