Disturbing Tehran Morgue Videos Reveal Brutality of Iran’s Protest Crackdown
January 15, 2026
New videos from a mortuary in Tehran show the harsh reality of the government’s violent crackdown on protesters. BBC Verify and BBC Persian analyzed the footage, which is too graphic to display. It shows nearly 200 bodies sprawled across the Kahrizak Forensic Medical Centre, many with visible injuries. Some victims were as young as 16. The footage was posted by Iranian activist Vahid, who said it was filmed on 10 January by a man who traveled 1,000 km to access the internet and upload it using networks from nearby countries.
The videos feature rows of body bags on floors and in warehouses. The man filming calls the scene "the apocalypse." He mentions the day after a nationwide protest call by Reza Pahlavi, the exiled son of the late Shah. The clips reveal blood-soaked floors, uncovered and zippered body bags, some with details like names and dates. At least one teen and one woman are among the dead.
Anti-government protests have spread to over 68 towns and cities, though the real number is believed to be higher due to a near total internet blackout affecting 90 million Iranians. Human Rights Activists News Agency estimates more than 2,500 killed. An Iranian official told Reuters 2,000 deaths occurred but blamed "terrorists."
The videos also show crowds of mourning family members searching for loved ones amid ambulances and officials checking bodies. Iranian state TV said a large number of bodies arrived at the mortuary, claiming many were security forces or bystanders.
Hospitals are reportedly overwhelmed by casualties. The footage exposes the raw human cost behind the unrest, revealing at least 2,403 protesters, 147 government-affiliated figures, nine civilians, and 12 children killed so far. The world watches as Iran faces a severe crackdown and a rising death toll.
