Karnataka to Build Lalbagh-Style Parks in Bengaluru North and South
January 15, 2026
The Karnataka state government has approved plans to build Lalbagh-style parks in Bengaluru North and Bengaluru South, said Deputy Chief Minister and Bengaluru Development Minister D.K. Shivakumar on Wednesday. He announced this after launching the annual flower show at Lalbagh. The Cabinet has already given approval for these park projects. The Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) will provide financial help for two parks. Officials have been asked to collect feedback from local residents near the proposed sites before starting the work. Mr. Shivakumar called Lalbagh a key asset for Karnataka. He highlighted that the state exports about 17 aircraft-loads of flowers and vegetables every week. The government plans to set up an international flower and vegetable market in Bengaluru. On questions about the proposed tunnel road project, he said, “There is no problem for Lalbagh due to the tunnel road. We are more concerned about Lalbagh than anyone else.” He noted that tunnel roads are needed because Bengaluru’s population is growing fast. The Deputy Chief Minister reassured that Lalbagh will be protected throughout these developments.
